Jigawa LG election: Tribunal strikes out PDP’s petition against APC

The Jigawa State Local Government Council Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Dutse, the state capital, on Wednesday struck out the petition of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the victory of All Progressives Congress( APC) in the Birnin Kudu chairmanship election.

The PDP candidate had earlier approached the tribunal seeking the nullification of APC as winner of the council election.

The three-man panel led by Barrister Batula Dauda in its verdict delivered yesterday said that the PDP petition lacks merit and therefore dismissed the case.

She explained that the tribunal observed that there were technical errors in the content of the petition filed by the plaintiff contrary to the electoral law of Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission 2018.

The tribunal, therefore, dismissed all the grounds of the PDP candidate’s petition for lack of merit with no cost against the complainant

DAILY POST reported that the APC had won all the local government council seats in the election which was held on 26th of June 2021.

PDP supporters had staged protests in three local governments, where it fielded candidates over an alleged plan by the JISIEC to change the election results.

State PDP Chairman, Babandi Ibrahim Gumel while speaking to newsmen after declaring the results of the local governments election, said the party would challenge the victory of the APC in three areas where the party fielded candidates, including Birnin-Kudu, Auyo and Malam-Madori local governments.
